Four gnomes will race during any match. Competing gnomes make three laps around the track, making a check for each one. The first check, to get a quick start, is Dex. The next one, to keep up the grueling pace, is Con. The last check is Wis for the mental fortitude to continue.
For each roll, consult the table below. This is how far the Gnome advances. After three laps, the gnome with the highest advancement total wins the race.
| Result | Advancement |
|---|---|
| 1-5 | 0 |
| 6-10 | 1 |
| 11-15 | 2 |
| 16-20 | 3 |
| 21+ | 4 |
*On a critical success, the gnome is immune to any attempts to thwart it.
Spectator Actions
PC’s watching the race can influence the outcome. During each leg of the race, each PC may choose one of the following actions. They can only choose each action once per match. Actions are declared in reverse initiative order.
- Banana Peel: Choose a single Gnome. They roll at Disadvantage.
- Flash-a-gnome: Give those little guys a reason to run! They roll at ADV.
- Catch: Cancel the Banana Peel action.
- Red Shell: PC must have a red shell, available for 20gp when entering the arena. Targets the lead gnome – they only roll a d8 for this check.
- Purple Nurple: Cancel the Flash-a-gnome action.
- Cheer-a-gnome: The chosen gnome adds +1 to their advancement tally after this roll.
- Boo-a-gnome: The chosen gnome subtracts -1 to their advancement tally after this roll.
Racers
1. Himby Dwabtittle
Himby is made for a long time, not a good time. He is seemingly tireless, and while slow and steady might not actually win the race, steady certainly doesn’t hurt.
| Dex: +0 | Con: +2 | Wis: +0 |
|---|
Special: Himby adds +1 Advancement when he rolls Con.
**2. Bepfickle Morrible
Bepfickle is a quick little freak, but her spazzy energy doesn’t last. Still, she is a fan favorite.
| Dex: +3 | Con: +0 | Wis: -1 |
|---|
Special: *Bepfickle rolls Dex rolls with Advantage. She gains +1 advancement on Dex rolls, but -1 on Wisdom rolls.
3. Drundle Crabnic
Drundle has rarely won a race, but that’s not why he runs. He is a consummate hater and will take every opportunity to hinder another gnome.
| Dex: +0 | Con: +2 | Wis: -1 |
|---|
Special: When Drundle is in a race, roll 1d4 for every segment of the race to target a random gnome in the race. They roll at Disadvantage and suffer -1 advancement. Yes, Drundle can target himself.
4. Viticus Plobbottum
Viticus is a veteran of gnome racing. What she lacks in speed off the line, she makes up for in technique and heart.
| Dex: -1 | Con: +1 | Wis: +2 |
|---|
Special: Once per match, Viticus rerolls a result of 10 or under.
5. Ol’ Blue.
Ol’ Blue hasn’t won a race in over 20 years. My dude… come on…
| Dex: -2 | Con: -2 | Wis: -2 |
|---|
Special: Ol’ Blue rolls every roll at disadvantage. Payouts for Ol’ Blue are double due to the odds.
6. Lil Greazy
Lil Greazy is… well, greasy. No one is sure if it’s sweat or if it’s lard and no one wants to get close enough to find out.
| Dex: 0 | Con: 0 | Wis: 0 |
|---|
Special: If Lil Greazy is targeted by any negative effect, roll ad 20. On an 11+, it misses.
**7. Flint Hammersmith
We’re pretty sure that’s actually a dwarf?
| Dex: -1 | Con: +4 | Wis: 0 |
|---|
Special: On each segment of a race, roll a d20. On a 1, Flint is ejected from the race. Flint rolls Con rolls at advantage.
**8. Iberial Flippybum
Iberial is the champ of the gnome races. Rarely beaten, a race with Iberial is rarely an exciteing match.
| Dex: +3 | Con: +3 | Wis: +3 |
|---|
Special: PC’s may not bet on Iberial.
