“Look at it. All that untapped power. It is chaos! Beautiful and untamed! The beings of this place are all too eager to throw their lives away to one demon or another. They tear down each others cities. Why do we not have this sort of glory?”
Druhaus’s fingers trailed over the glass ball, leaving a smear of grease. Her face was twisted in a jagged, uneven smile, her eyes wide with excitement and mischievous delight. Silwyn ignored her, instead watching as the lands of Samsarras scrolled past her in rapid succession. There were oceans and forests, mountains and deserts. Some of the people of this world soared on great wings while others burrowed into the earth. There was such wonderment!
“You see only the surface, sister. Look deeper. Entropy and decay is all around them, yet they continue to build! They continue to thrive! It is the natural order of things. Look at their towers and cities. Listen to their language. They create out of nothing! If there is glory, that is it.”
Mugan only half paid attention to the scrying orb. He was busy mashing a mixture of herbs with a mortar and pestle, filling the air of their dwelling with an astringent perfumey scent. His fingers were stained purple from the strange roots he had plucked this morning, a color that matched the hem of his robe.
Thunder crashed outside with a resonating rumble. Silwyn jumped before regaining her composure. The twins hut sat on the edge of a cliff, past which the eternal storm raged. Neither of them gave it noticed, but the goddess was not as used to it.
“You are a fool, Mugan. Your imposed order is a prison you keep yourself in. It is a world of demons! How could you call that anything other than chaos?”
“It may have been created by demons, Druhaus, but it is the people who rule it. It has grown beyond them. How can anything truly be created by chaos??
“But can we go there?”
They both stopped and turned to look toward Silwyn who knelt by the table to be eye level with the glowing sphere. She did not bother to return the gaze, instead continuing to be captivated by the world in front of her.
Druhaus’s lips flattened and tensed for a moment in deep thought before returning again to its wild smile. “Yessss! It would be easy with our power. Oh, what joy it would be. We could sow such hysterics! The people would tear each other apart! Let us go!”
“You will not dare, Druhaus.”
Mugan was standing now, his long crystalline staff in hand. His hair hung in a single long braid down his back, perfectly centered on his blue robe. The look on the god’s face was nothing short of severe.
“We can not just abandoned our realm and barge into this other. We must call council first. If we do travel there, we should do so as leaders. These beings need direction, not you.”
“And you would stop me brother?”
Druahus stood now, face to face with her brother. Her hair was chopped raggedly on the left side of her face, but the hair on the right hung in long tangled knots all about her shoulders. She wore but a simple grey cloak pulled tightly about her. Druahus’s staffed matched her brothers in stature, but was instead a blackened chunk of gnarled wood.
“I would not hesitate. We are not above the rules, sister.”
Silwyn did not hear the rest of their argument. She was already in motion, walking the long path away from their hut and the storm that raged outside of it. She would call a council, then. She would find a way to go to Samsarras.
