A Traveler’s Guide to Samsarras: The Del Harun

I do not fear them, as they are simple merchants. I do, however, fear their dreams. I am almost certain that demons visit them during the night. I have heard their screams upon waking. I have seen one kill another over a slight she had suffered in a dream. They believe their nighttime visions to be real!

And yet… I have spoken to a Del Harun woman who knew things of me she could not possibly know. She claimed to have seen them in a dream. I am not one to be given to superstition, but what else am I to think? My stomach tightens as I remember her words and I forever await the assassins knife she foretold. Yes, I value their trade, but truly, their nocturnal journeys make it hard for me to sleep.

Del Harun claim to have ancient dragon blood in their veins. While there are none who can prove or disprove this, it is obvious to those who travel with them for any amount of time that they are not mere humans. These desert nomads ride their horses across the burning sands of Qua’Lorn, resting each night to dream. They carry what they see at night into the day.

The Longest Night Comes!

    A log popped and hissed loudly, sending sparks drifting into the stone room. Grahlius drew her child a little closer into her breast, sighing heavily. The little girl reached up, her small fingers twirling around her the wispy hairs protruding from her mother’s chin, just like her wife had used to do. CrumblingUpKeep: Gold Pieces are Boring

Dungeons and Dragons has this wonderful abstraction of currency that helps to simplify the game and move things along. There are ten copper pieces in a silver piece, ten silver pieces in a gold piece, and 10 gold in a platinum. There is electrum as well, but let’s not talk about that.  No one speaks about electrum.

The Astar Uln

The Astar Uln Pantheon, also called “The Companions,” are worshiped by the wood elves and some others, though many more prayed to them in past eras. This is their story, according to the Elves of the wild.

The darkness was barren, save for a seed and an endless wind that gently moved through it. The wind was cool and soft, the kind that whispers love poems to bare skin in the spring time. That was the wind that existed before all other things. That was the wind that would bring the rain.

A Traveler’s Guide to Samsarras: The Kiradal

   The Kiradal are a small tribe of nomadic dark elves who travel Qua’Lorn throughout the desert nights. Led by an ancient Dark Elf named Vhurrenna, none are sure what has brought them to live on the surface of the world instead of its depths. They are constantly crossing the sands for some unknown purpose.

   Vhurrenna identifies as male, which is strange among the Dark Elves. Their society is matriarchal, just as the Avriel society is. This may have something to do with their flight from the dark tunnels below. Rumors circulate that it was the result of some sort of rebellion, though any one who knows the truth of the matter is keeping their lips sealed. A Traveler’s Guide to Samsarras: Zan Zan Turina

   The City of Sin. The Den of the Snake. The Blood Sands. Zan Zan Turina is known by all of these names. It sits in the middle of Qua’ Lorn, it’s walls standing in defiance to the world. It lays upon the only known mine of darkstone, the rock that the gnomes refine into gunpowder. It also hosts multiple gem mines as well as a gold mine. A Traveler’s Guide to Samsarras: Dezeldenia

This history of Dezeldenia is one of cruelty, disease, and death.

   The land of Dezeldenia lays to the North of Mirlethia, separated from their neighbor by Targin’s Rot. The river continually flows with blackened water, yet is commonly traversed by Mirthlethians and Dezeldenians alike as they plunder resources and take slaves from their neighbors. The two human lands have been at war longer than even most elves remember, though neither has managed to expand far into their enemies territory. Those that have founded settlements on the opposite side of the river rarely see their work last more than a decade before it is reclaimed by it’s native inhabitants. A Traveler’s Guide to Samsarras: The Kashkuli

 

“Qua Jon, father of magic, was not a worldly man. His magic came not of “things.” It came of himself. It came from enlightenment. We but seek the same.”

  The Kashkuli, first and foremost, have given up all the material possessions and comforts of the world. They roam the streets of Varrek, subsisting on that which they can scavenge and beg for. They reason that any material possessions or participation in greater society robs them of valuable time they could put toward enlightenment and the pursuit of what they see as “Ishtalla,” or “Perfect magic,” loosely translated. They believe what the world perceived as Insanity in Qua Jon was but Genius too far removed from the layperson to understand. They seek to follow in his path.

  Only men are allowed to become Kashkuli. The order holds itself to absurd standards in that regard.
